FAMILY ESTATES
The Tesseron family business was founded in Cognac. Over the years their business has expanded and developed. Today it also includes two highly successful Bordeaux classed growth properties, Château Pontet-Canet in Pauillac and Château Lafon-Rochet in Saint-Estèphe. Their Cognac properties nestle in the two top districts of the Cognac region, Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne. The gently rolling slopes of Grande Champagne are the very heart of the Cognac region. The thick chalky soil of Grande Champagne yields the finest Cognacs. These may be called "Premier Cru" or "First Growths", and are Cognacs with great finesse, bouquet, elegance and longevity. Domaine de Saint Surin is a smaller estate acquired by the Tesseron's in the 1950's. Saint Surin lies in the adjacent Petite Champagne district where the topsoil is thicker and proportion of chalk less. The characteristics of Petite Champagne are similar to the neighbouring Grande Champagne, but have less intensity and mature more quickly.
